Rule Builder for Healthcare SaaS Interoperability

The Project: InteleOrchestrator (IO) provides radiologists with a list of exams to read. Once the physician selects an exam to read, IO opens other programs to the patient data for that exam. The IO product manager asked me to design a feature that let users set which software opened based on exam data.

My Role: UX Researcher. I collaborated with a UI/UX Designer for the high-fidelity prototype.

Timeline: 2024

Approach: There were existing rule builders in other software (e.g. ServiceNow). From previous research, I knew administrator users of IO would be comfortable with Boolean logic.

The Methods:

  • Design Research to pull from existing rule builders

  • Wireframing to communicate proposed layout and behaviour

  • Internal stakeholder interviews to understand organizational goals and needs our customers were reporting

  • 1:1 user interviews to understand the current implementations, workarounds, and edge cases

  • Thematic analysis to derive high-level feature requirements

  • Moderated usability testing to understand where the design could be further refined

The Deliverables:

  • Research findings presentation for Product Management leadership

  • Validated prototype with end users through several rounds of usability testing

  • Acceptance Criteria for front-end development of feature implementation

The Outcomes:

  • New partnerships with cross-functional teams for future research

  • Feature prototype was well-received at an international trade show
